Alcohol, a central nervous system depressant, is the most widely abused drug in the Unites States. While moderate use of alcohol is acceptable to most people, its misuse can have consequences ranging from mild embarrassment to death.

The use of alcohol, especially by youth, has changed drastically over the years. Industry marketing has provided the consumer the opportunity to drink larger and larger quantities of alcohol by increasing serving size and package size. Accordingly, there has been a rise in alcohol-related problems such as binge drinking, sexual assaults, violence, destruction of property and other crimes.
